Welcome to the 36th Annual meeting of the International Society of Chemical Ecology
The 36th annual meeting of the ISCE will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa and hosted by Drs. Jeremy Allison (Canadian Forest Service), Christian Pirk (University of Pretoria), Francois Roets (Stellenbosch University) and Bernard Slippers (FABI, University of Pretoria).
The theme of the conference "Chemcial Ecology and Sustainable Development" will emphasize the immense potential chemical ecology has to both inform our understanding of the natural world and the potential for practical applications. Talks will cover the chemistry, biochemistry and function of natural products, their importance at all levels of ecological organization in diverse taxa, and their evolutionary origins.
In addition to a strong scientific program, the 36th annual meeting of the ISCE also offers incredible opportunities for tourism. A few of the many opportunities delegates can take advantage of include a guided walk through the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, an African dinner experience where you will feel the heartbeat of Africa and the gala dinner on a wine farm as part of the conference programme. A trip up Table Mountain and visit to Robben Island and Cape Point should be on your list and you can also add an extended tour to the Kruger Park, ADDO Elephant Park or Pilanesberg to experience South Africa's Big Five. Seeing the unending stretches of seasonal flowers in the Namaqualand on the west coast of South Africa in bloom is a spectacular sight. Although the conference will be held at the end of the Namaqualand flower season, the flowers may still be open and it will be worthwhile to check updates two months prior to the conference.
